WEDNESDAY 19 APRIL 2006, 7.30pm:
LET YOUR COUNTRY KNOW
This fourth session is all about getting yourself noticed and is relevant to all creatives, but pitched particularly at design agencies doing fresh and exciting work that might currently fall below the radar of the national press, and up-and-coming bands creating a local buzz but keen to get noticed on a wider scale.
Mark Sinclair is Senior Writer for internationally-recognised design bible Creative Review. Responsible for many of the flagship features - from profiles of individual designers to opinion pieces on all aspects of the commercial arts - he also takes a commissioning role for the reviews, books and Pick of the Month sections.
For 25 years Creative Review has covered the very best in graphic design, illustration, photography, new media, film and advertising. They run Creative Futures, an initiative set up specifically to unearth new talent and help further their careers.
Tim Jonze of music industry stalwart NME has an impressive portfolio that includes cover interviews with Oasis, Pete Doherty, Ian Brown and The Strokes, but he's also played his hand in breaking a clutch of new bands - including Razorlight, The Cribs, Long Blondes and Arctic Monkeys.
Tim picked up and supported Kaiser Chiefs before they had a record deal, helping them to get signed and eventually become one of the biggest bands in the UK. His work has also been published in Uncut, Vice, Dazed & Confused, Essentials, Nylon, India Link, Dummy and Plan B.
Mark and Tim will reveal the inner workings of their respective publications - when the deadlines are, who writes for them, how and why they select content, and what they can do (and are doing) to discover and push emerging talent in their respective fields. It promises to be a great session for anyone doing exciting creative work and keen to catch the attention of the creative press.
